Working with the DBC team in 2017/2018 as a contract editor was one of the most fun projects of my early career. Since then, I’ve grown in my capabilities primarily as a commercial director, but also as a swiss army knife for clients.
My experiences range collaborating with agencies, in-house teams, and direct to client to produce commercials, branded docs, and social content. Below you’ll find a sampling of relevant work I’ve done over the years.

ABOUT JON
Raised by Chinese parents born in Lima, Peru, he grew up in his family’s grocery store in East Vancouver. Walking the blurred lines of his Chinese and Latino heritage, he developed a sensitivity that he uses to reveal the truths about our shared experiences.
With over 13 Years of experience in commercial directing, brand storytelling and documentary production, he works with diverse and top talent to help bring stories to life.
He’s worked with global clients such as lululemon, Vega, Ocean Wise, Alibaba and also Canadian clients like TD, Purdy’s Chocolates, Tourism Vancouver, DBC, Tourism Manitoba, and Tourism Northwest Territories.
In 2024, Jon was named one of Canada’s Best and Rising talents by LBB. His work has been recognized by the 1.4 Awards, Berlin Commercial Awards, Shots.net, Applied Arts, NOWNESS, and BOOOOOOOM.

After quitting his corporate job to travel the world, North Rock has one experience still on his bucket-list: seeing the Polar Bears in Canada’s North. Our nimble crew traveled to the northern town of Churchill Manitoba to capture this once in a life time experience. We would all leave changed by the “ever wandering one.”

④ Ocean Wise - Seaforestation

The Ocean are the true lungs of our planet.
Through an atmospheric river, we captured Ocean Wise’s Seaforestation team conducting experimental work to restore our kelp forests. The latest campaing to raise funds for Ocean Wise.

⑤ Tourism Jasper - Happy Comes Easy
JASPER, AB
I’ve increasingly found myself working with agency creative teams to develop new campaigns from existing libraries of footage. This work for Tourism Jasper’s Winter25 campaing is an example of bringing storytelling with exisiting footage to create a fresh campaign.
Fun fact: the campaign was also featured during the Oiler’s home games.
